Viralterkini.idJakarta – The venue for the classic match between Persija Jakarta and Persib Bandung has finally been answered. PSSI Secretary General, Yunus Nusi, confirmed that the match could still be held at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK).
This decision also ends speculation that had developed regarding the use of the stadium amidst grass maintenance plans for the Indonesian National Team’s agenda. Previously, there were concerns about schedule conflicts considering that SUGBK will also be used for the Indonesian National Team’s FIFA Matchday match on June 5 2026.
Meanwhile, the Persija versus Persib duel is scheduled to take place earlier, precisely on Sunday, May 10 2026 at 15.30 WIB, in the continuation of the Indonesian Super League competition for the 2025/2026 season.
Yunus Nusi emphasized that the time gap between league matches and international events is still quite loose, so that it does not interfere with field preparations.
“Because of the long time span between May 10 for the Super League, Persija and Persib matches and until June, the time is a bit long, for PSSI please (use SUGBK),” said Yunus in his statement.
He also ensured that the field condition remained suitable for holding league matches. “There is no problem with the field being used for matches in the Super League,” he added.
Previously, the Chairman of the Persija Organizing Committee, Ferry Indrasjarief, revealed that his party had been summoned by the SUGBK management to discuss plans for using the stadium. During the meeting, the management conveyed that there was an agenda for the National Team which required field maintenance.
“Yesterday we were invited to SUGBK and they said that June 5 would be used by the National Team, so we hope there will be improvements to the grass,” said Ferry.
He explained that the process of replacing the stadium grass took about a month. If you count backwards from the FIFA Matchday schedule, then improvements should ideally start in early May.
“Repairing the grass, if it is replaced, will take a month. This means that if you count down June 5, around May 5 the grass will be removed,” he explained.
However, Ferry emphasized that there had been no official rejection letter from the stadium management regarding the use of SUGBK for the Persija versus Persib match. He also said that the final decision remained in the hands of PSSI as the national football authority.
With this certainty, the hot duel between Persija and Persib is certain to continue at SUGBK. The match entitled “El Clasico Indonesia” is predicted to be fierce considering the long rivalry between the two teams, as well as being a crucial match in the top competition this season.
