Marcell Siahaan Releases “Towards the Light”

Viralterkini.idJakarta – Singer and songwriter Marcell Siahaan returns to present his latest religious work entitled “Menuju Cahaya” which will be officially released in February 2026.

This song is his second religious single after previously releasing “Tawakal” in 2024, which he also wrote, composed and arranged himself.

Like the previous work, “Towards Light” again shows Marcell’s independence in music. This single was released through his label and music publisher, Ruang Breastfeeding Records and MKH Publishing. Marcell acted as producer and main musical director in the production process.

The vocal recording process was carried out by Yusuf Effendi Hadiyanto in the Breastfeeding Room studio. A number of experienced musicians were involved, including Gatot Alindo on acoustic and electric guitar, Ivan Alidiyan on keyboard and synthesizer, Stefanus Adi Wibowo as vocal director, and Lawrence “Random” Widarto as mixing and mastering engineer. Marcell’s wife, Rima Melati Adams, also took part by reading a fragment of the song’s poetic English lyrics.

“Obviously, Rima is the only one who is the most fluent and has the best pronunciation of English in this house,” said Marcell jokingly.

Thematically, “Towards the Light” highlights man’s inner journey when he stops feeling like he is the center and begins to step towards something bigger than himself. This song speaks of letting go, not accomplishment; about learning to submit and be true to yourself, not being right.

The main inspiration comes from the concept of Tazkiyatun Nafs or the process of purifying the soul. This idea is in line with the message in the Koran, especially Surah Asy-Syams verses 9-10 and Surah Al-A’la verse 14, which emphasizes that true luck comes from the courage to cleanse the mind. The meaning of “Light” in this song is also inspired by the description of Divine Light in Surah An-Nur verse 35, as a goal to be approached, not possessed.

The musical and lyrical approach in “Menuju Cahaya” is minimalist and repetitive. The repetition of the lyrics functions like a prayer said slowly and reflectively, emphasizing that self-purification is not an instant process, but rather a continuous journey.

Interestingly, different from previous religious works, this song is covered in a strong arrangement with electronic nuances. However, Marcell ensured that his spiritual spirit was maintained.

“I deliberately created this song with a slightly different arrangement, of course without losing its spirit. The hope is that this song can attract more listeners from a wider and more diverse range of segments. Anyone can interpret the music and lyrics of this song without having to wait for certain moments. Self-purification is a process worthy of being celebrated by anyone, anywhere and anytime,” he concluded.

With “Towards the Light”, Marcell presents a space for intimate reflection—about humans realizing their limitations, letting go of self-righteousness, and still choosing to walk slowly but honestly towards the Light. (rby)
