Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – An extraordinary sky phenomenon will decorate the earth’s sky tomorrow, Saturday, August 2, 2027. The total solar eclipse of this century will occur and sweep the track from Europe to Asia.
This event is not just an ordinary eclipse, but rather a rare astronomy moment with a totality duration of 6 minutes 23 seconds – two times longer than most total eclipses.
In comparison, the majority of total solar eclipses usually last only less than three minutes. This extraordinary long duration has made it the longest since 1991, and this record is expected to be solved in 2114.
Long duration and dark pathway
This eclipse will start from the Atlantic Ocean, touch the first land in southern Spain, then crosses North Africa, and continues to move towards the Middle East and parts of Asia.
Following are the countries that will be passed by the totality path:
- Europe:Spain (South)
- Africa:Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan
- Asia:Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia
The eclipse will end his journey in the Indian Ocean, near the Chagos Islands.
The shadow pathway is estimated to be as wide as 258 kilometers, and will create a moment for a moment during the day at these locations.
Luxor, Egypt: Best Observation Point
For heavenly observers and eclipse hunters, Luxor region in Egypt is one of the best places to witness this phenomenon.
Besides having a total darkness duration of more than six minutes, weather conditions in August which tend to be bright and dry makes this area ideal for astronomical observations without cloud interference.
Other countries such as Libya are also included in the observation recommendations, because the total shadow path will cross the area with good visibility and open horizons.
Why can this eclipse so long?
The long duration of this eclipse is not a coincidence, but as a result of the combination of three rare astronomical phenomena which are referred to as “Cosmic Trinity”:
- Earth in Aphelion: At that time, the position of the earth was at the farthest point of the sun. The sun looks a little smaller than usual.
- The moon in perigee: the moon is at the closest point to the earth, so it looks bigger and can cover the sun perfectly.
- The Path near the Equator: The eclipse path that crosses near the equator makes the shadow of the moon move more slowly on the surface of the earth.
These three factors allow the creation of the simplest of the longest sun in the 21st century, an event of heaven that is not only spectacular, but also very rare
