Viralterkini.id, Gunungkidul – Behind the stretching of the southern coast of Yogyakarta, which is crowded with tourists, tucked in one hamlet that runs calmly: Wotawati Hamlet, Pucung Village, Girisubo District.
Set of limestone hills and dried field paths that stretch, Wotawati is a small portrait of village life that is still loyal to tradition. There is no sparkling tourist attraction or contemporary cafe, but that’s where its attraction.
Citizens live from modest crops. The dry season is not new, and rocky streets are not a big problem. In this hamlet, daily activities run with a fixed rhythm: farming, working together, keeping the garden, and occasionally gathering in the hammer of the hamlet when there is a festival.
Traditional ceremonies such as nyadran and religious activities are still routinely carried out. Not to watch, but it is part of everyday life. In the midst of modernization, Wotawati survived in her own way.
Interestingly, some local young people began to be involved in the development of the hamlet. There are those who start learning digital promotion, some are participating in agricultural processing training. Not massive, but enough to be a sign that Wotawati was not entirely left behind.
Its location not far from the path to Sadeng Beach and other coastal areas makes this hamlet actually has the potential to be developed. But for some residents, becoming a calm and independent hamlet is enough.
In Wotawati, we were invited to be silent for a moment. Witness a life that is not in a hurry. Not excited, but there is.
