VIRALTERKINI.ID, KABUL-A representative of the United Nations (UN) stressed that the organization was accelerating the delivery of aid to the earthquake areas in Afghanistan. It was also said that the survivors had difficulty getting decent drinking water.
Stephen Rodriques, a permanent representative for the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Afghanistan, held an online press conference on Friday (5/9).
The earthquake with magnitude 6 that shook East Afghanistan on Sunday (31/8) killed 2,205 people and injured 3,640 people in the most severe affected Kunar Province.
Rodriques revealed the survey results showed around 84,000 people affected by disasters.
“As many as 68 main water sources have been destroyed, cut off access to clean water for thousands of people,” he said. “More than 20,000 people have received food assistance, and water trucks and sanitation facilities are being prepared to prevent disease outbreaks,” he added.
Some media reported that under the power of the Taliban group, rescue workers and male medical workers refused to transport or care for women.
Referring to the report, Rodriques said UNDP had not seen evidence of a systematic prohibition of women to get emergency medical treatment. (ma)
