Trump’s decision to fall, what impact will it have on RI-US tariffs?

Viralterkini.id – The Indonesian government ensures that the tariff agreement with the United States will continue to operate even though the US Supreme Court overturned Donald Trump’s global tariff policy.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the decision did not affect the bilateral agreement between Indonesia and the US.

“This agreement is different from global tariff policy. The process is still running according to schedule,” said Airlangga in his official statement, Sunday (22/2/2026).

US Supreme Court Ruling Does Not Invalidate Bilateral Agreement

The US Supreme Court said the president does not have full authority to impose global tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The ruling halted the general rate plan at 10 percent.

However, the Indonesian government considers that this decision does not interfere with the trade agreement agreed upon by the two countries.

President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia is ready to face any possible changes in US economic policy.

Indonesia Requests Zero Percent Tariff to Remain in Effect

Indonesia asked the United States to maintain the zero percent tariff facility for a number of leading export products.

These products include coffee, cocoa, crude palm oil (CPO), textiles, footwear and electronic components.

Airlangga explained that some of these facilities had been regulated through separate executive orders so they were not included in the general tariff policy.

In the Reciprocal Trade AgreementIndonesia obtained tariff exemptions for more than 1,800 export product lines to the US.

In contrast, Indonesia waives tariffs for around 99 percent of products from the United States.

The Minister of Trade said this agreement would encourage an increase in national exports to the US market.

Further Negotiations Still Open

The government has opened room for further talks with the US if there is a change in policy in Washington.

The economic research institute CORE assesses that the US Supreme Court’s decision provides an opportunity for fairer tariff renegotiations.

The Coordinating Ministry for the Economy emphasized that it would safeguard national interests at every stage of the negotiations.

The tariff agreement between Indonesia and the United States continues even though the US Supreme Court overturned the global tariff policy.

Indonesia continues to fight for zero percent tariffs for superior export products. The government is also preparing anticipatory steps if US policy changes again.
