Viralterkini.id – The Teaching and Education Faculty of Pakuan University (FKIP Unpak) together with the wilderness of the Foundation held a public lecture activity titled “Together for the Earth: Youth Collaboration for Achieves SDGs and Education for Sustainable Development” in the 4th Floor of FKIP Unpak on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Discussion activities on the participation of the general public, especially the younger generation, in supporting the achievement of the targets of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and education for sustainable development (ESD) are supported by the University of Tsukuba, as well as two high schools from Japan namely the University of Tsukuba Senior High School at Sakado and Ehime University Senior High School.
Limited public lectures attended by 24 students and students from Japan and around 50 Pakuan University students and high school students presented two main speakers, Dr. Dolly Priatna, Executive Director of the Foundation Foundation who is also a practitioner in the field of “sustainability”, and Dr. Nakao P. Nomura, Director of Division of International Exchange Support University of Tsukuba. In addition, this activity is also a place for “sharing sessions” or exchanges about the experiences of students and students in both countries, Indonesia and Japan, in supporting the achievement of SDGs goals in both countries.
Executive Director of the Foundation Belowers, Dr. Dolly Priatna in her presentation explained that greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) are very closely related to climate change, because GHG emissions are the main driving for climate change. In addition, the forestry sector is the main contributor in the effort to reduce GHG emissions, therefore ecosystem restoration has become one of the important global issues today.
The United Nations (UN) has declared 2021-2030 as a UN decade for ecosystem restoration, which targets 350 million hectares of degraded ecosystems to be restored throughout the world, given the ecosystem restoration is considered as one of the strategic steps to mitigate climate change, increase food security, maintain water supply, maintain water supply, and protect water diversity.
Furthermore, Dolly, who is also a lecturer at the Pakuan University Postgraduate School explained “Forest Restoration Project: SDGs Together!” is a degraded forest recovery program that is expected to help efforts to restore the ecological function of forest ecosystems while being able to encourage the socio-economic improvement of local communities in a sustainable manner.
“We will continue to expand the involvement of the private sector in the forest restoration program as an effort to support several sustainable development objectives in accordance with the mission of the SDGs UN, namely Nothing left behind In achieving the SDGs goals. We use a multi -upheaval collaboration approach, one of which is by cooperating with the private sector from Japan to support the natural forest recovery movement in Riau Province, “Dolly said in her presentation.
Meanwhile, Main speaker Public Lecture, Dean of FKIP Unpak, Dr. H. Eka Suhardi, M.Si Dalam Keynote speechIt said that global issues such as climate crisis, social inequality, and quality of education are real challenges that must be faced together. Through this public lecture activity, FKIP Pakuan University wants to show that education has an important role in answering these challenges, especially in supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGs).
“We believe that the younger generation has great potential to be a driver of change. Therefore, collaboration like this is not only a place to share knowledge, but also efforts to build global awareness and concrete actions for a more sustainable future,” said Eka.
On the same occasion, Dr. Nakao P. Nomura, who is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences University of Tsukuba in his presentation said that the ESD aims to empower and complete the present and future generations to meet their needs to use a balanced and integrated approach to the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. Because of this, this public lecture activity confirms our commitment in supporting sustainable education through strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening the implementation of education for sustainable development (ESD).
“This collaboration is expected to shape the present and future generations that are aware of the issue of sustainability and be able to actively contribute to the development of the nation and the world so that it is able to support the effort to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially the objectives related to quality education and environmental sustainability,” concluded Nomura.
In line with Nomura, Head of Teacher of International Studies, University of Tsukuba Senior High School at Sakado, Dr. Yoshikazu Tatemoto hopes that through this “Sharing Session” activity students and students from Japan and Indonesia will get learning and bring up new inspiration about how they can support the achievement of SDGs and ESD in the future.
Also present as a resource person at sharing session Namely Agus Deni, S.Si., Masters Study Program for Environmental Management at Pakuan University, Ade Bagja Hidayat, S. Hut., M. Ling., Alumni of the Masters Program for Environmental Management Study Program, Pakuan University and Dhia Nida Fauziah, students of the FKIP Biology Education Study Program at Pakuan University. This public lecture activity was moderated by Asih Wahyuni, M.Pd., Lecturer in the English Language Education Study Program FKIP Unpak. (ma)
