Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Indonesian archery contingent successfully won four medals in the 2025 Asian Archery Championship which took place in Beijing, China, on July 1-6, 2025.
This series of achievements is evidence of the positive development of Indonesian disabled athletes at the Asian level.
One silver medal was presented by Ken Swagumilang in the men’s singles number compound division.
Ken managed to penetrate the final round after defeating a number of Asian top archers. However, in the top party which was held Sunday (6/7/2025), Ken had to recognize the superiority of the host archer, Ai Xinliang, who ranked second in the compound division, with a score of 149-143.
Despite failing to win gold, Ken still showed impressive performance.
In addition to the silver medal in the individual number, he also presented two bronze medals from the men’s doubles number compound paired with Arif Firmansyah, as well as in the mixed doubles number compound with Teodora Audi Ayudia Frelly.
Meanwhile, another bronze medal was won by the Kholidin and Noviera Ross couple in the mixed doubles number of the Recurve Division.
This acquisition makes Indonesia end the championship with a total of one silver and three bronze, ranked fifth in the final standings.
Indonesian archery coach, Rameez Ali Surya Negara, appreciated the struggle of all athletes competing in Beijing.
According to him, China and India are still the hardest opponents in Asia. Rameez assessed that the host benefited from the condition of the arena that had been familiar to them.
“The host appeared very enjoying because this venue is an arena of training. They are already accustomed to the direction of the wind and weather,” Rameez Ali said in his statement on Monday (7/7/2025).
He also said that Indonesian athletes had shown significant developments, especially those who previously appeared in Paris 2024 Paralympics such as Ken Swagumilang, Teodora Audi, and Kholidin.
According to Rameez, their confidence has increased with experience in international competition.
In addition, Rameez gave a positive record to two debutments, namely Arif Firmansyah and Noviera Ross, who also succeeded in donating medals in this championship.
Arif himself has only joined the national training since November 2024, while Noviera Ross is a dropout of the National Paralympics Week (Peparnas) XVII 2024 which began to participate in the National Pelatnas May 2025.
“Arif’s progress is very good, especially because he has just moved from the recurve number to the compound. He can adapt quickly and display satisfactory performance,” explained Rameez.
“Likewise Noviera, although only the first to appear at international events, he was immediately able to win a bronze medal with Kholidin. This is a proud achievement,” he added.
After the Asian of the 2025 Archery Championship, the Indonesian archery team will face a denser agenda, including the World Championship in South Korea on September 21-28, 2025, and the Championship at the United Arab Emirates on 1-6 November 2025.
Rameez expressed optimism with the steps of his athletes towards the long -term target in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
“We are very optimistic because we still have four years. This is quite long to evaluate performance, improve mental competing, and finalize preparation,” he said.
Separately, Ken Swagumilang admitted that the experience of competing in Beijing was a valuable learning to improve the quality of him against the world archer.
“This championship is a benchmarking for me. Because I have never met Chinese athletes before, so I can know what their quality is like. After this I will try to pursue them as best they can,” Ken said.
The same thing was conveyed by Noviera Ross who felt he had a lot of experience in his first international championship.
“Actually there are no significant obstacles, just need to be more calm in controlling myself because this is my first debut at the Asian level. In the future I will continue to increase training,” Noviera said.
Following are the final standings of the 2025 Asian Asian Championship Medal in Beijing:
