State Pays Final Respects, Body of Former Minister of Youth and Sports Abdul Gafur Moved to TMPN Kalibata

​Viralterkini.idJAKARTA – The state pays its highest respect to one of the nation’s best sons from Central Halmahera, TNI Junior Marshal (Ret.) Dr. H. Abdul Gafur Tengku Idris. On Saturday (17/1/2026), the skeleton of the National Figure’s body was officially moved from the original burial place at Pondok Ranggon TPU to the Kalibata Main National Heroes Cemetery (TMPNU), South Jakarta.

​The transfer procession which took place starting at 10.00 WIB was carried out with a solemn military ceremony by the TNI Headquarters through the Permanent Garrison I/Jakarta. The ceremony was led by representatives of the Indonesian Air Force as a form of appreciation for the deceased’s service and dharma during his lifetime to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

​Presence of Family and Local Government
​Apart from being attended by the deceased’s extended family, this procession was also attended directly by the Regent of Central Halmahera, Ikram M. Sangadji. The presence of Regent Ikram is a representation of the respect of the people of North Maluku for the services of the deceased who have brought a good name to the region on the national stage.

​”This transfer is a proper form of final respect for the deceased. He was not only a national figure, but was an example for us of unlimited dedication to the nation,” said the Regent of Central Halmahera.

​Traces of the National Figure’s Service
​Abdul Gafur, who was born in Patani, Central Halmahera on June 20 1939, is known as one of the architects of Indonesian youth. During his lifetime, he held a number of strategic positions that were crucial to the history of Indonesian government:

​Young Minister for Youth Affairs (1978–1983)
​Minister of Youth and Sports (1983–1988)
​Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (1997–1999)

​The deceased died on September 4 2020 in Jakarta. As the recipient of the Mahaputera Adipradana Star honor, constitutionally the deceased has the right to be buried at TMPN Kalibata.

​The transfer of the remains is not just a formal ceremony, but rather a reminder to the younger generation about a figure of integrity. As a pioneer in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Abdul Gafur is considered successful in laying the foundation for youth and sports development in the country.

​Now, the Marshal has rested in the final resting place befitting a nation’s warrior, alongside other national heroes in the heart of the capital. (dano)
