Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – League 1 match between Persija Jakarta against Malut United at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), North Jakarta, Friday (5/23/2025), was colored by riots that made the match must be stopped temporarily.
The chaos occurred due to the act of a number of supporters who turned on the flares and threw it toward the field.
North Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Ahmad Fuady, revealed that his party had secured dozens of supporters before the match began.
From the results of the examination at the stadium entrance, the police confiscated a number of dangerous items and secured dozens of people.
“Before entering the stadium, an examination was carried out and a total of 36 people were secured, consisting of 34 men and 2 women,” Kombes Fuady said when contacted on Friday (5/23/2025).
Of these, as many as 28 people were taken to the North Jakarta Metro Police for further examination, while the eight were still at the stadium security post.
“We secure 28 people and taken to the North Jakarta Metro Police for the inspection process, 8 people are at the security post,” Fuady said.
The police also confiscated a number of items of evidence from the hands of the supporters. The evidence that was secured included 20 flares, one cutter, and three bottles of liquor.
The match was temporarily stopped
Chaos began to occur when the match entered the 74th minute. Flare was first seen burning from the north stands, then followed by other flares from various sides of the stadium.
Not only flare, some spectators also seemed to throw smoke bombs towards the field.
Security officers in the field moved quickly to secure the situation. Some of them threw back smoke bombs to safer locations to avoid further interference with the course of the match.
Seeing the situation that was increasingly unfavorable, the referee decided to stop the match while in the 75th minute.
White smoke due to flare soared to the roof of the stadium, causing visibility to be disturbed and caused concern over the safety of the players and spectators.
“Please turn off the flares, more and more smoke, dangerous,” said one of the stadium officers through loudspeakers.
Protest Supporters and Governor’s Departure
In the midst of chaos, some supporters also unfurled a protest banner against the management of Persija Jakarta. One of the banners that read “Total Management” is in the spotlight in the crowd.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, who was also present watching the match from the VIP stands, chose to leave the stadium after the flare began to be turned on. There has been no official statement from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government regarding this incident.
After the situation is considered safe, the match resumed. According to Kombes Police Chief Ahmad Fuady, the match was stopped about five minutes before finally returning.
“Yes (was stopped), the match has been resumed,” he explained.
Until the match was over, the two teams had not managed to score goals. The final score of the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
The incident at JIS was again in the public spotlight on stadium security and supporters’ behavior in national soccer competitions.
The police stated that they would continue to evaluate security procedures so that similar incidents were not repeated.
