Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – The Indonesian bicycle racing team managed to record a proud achievement by bringing home a total of six medals from the Champion Solutions of the Cycling Cup 2025 which took place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on 2-4 August 2025.
In the international standard competition, two young Indonesian athletes competed in the category of Women Blind (WB), namely Vanza Miftahul Jannah and Zulaika, successfully performed brilliantly.
Both were accompanied by their respective tandem, namely Imelda Tabita Deswari Putri as Pilot Vanza and Nadia Septiani as pilot Zulaika.
The Vanza/Imelda couple appeared extraordinary by winning two gold medals from the 1 km Km Time Trial WB and Individual Pursuit (IP) track number 4 km WB.
In addition, both of them also won a silver medal from the WB Class Class Individual Time Trial (ITT) number.
The victory was inseparable from the impressive performance of Vanza/Imelda who managed to beat the Thai host couple twice, Aitsaraphon Khwaenghmieang/Thanaya Jaichuang, known as one of the leading in the Southeast Asian region.
Meanwhile, the Zulaika/Nadia couple also donated three medals to the Indonesian contingent.
They won a silver medal in the 1 km time track number Time Trial, as well as two bronze medals in the 4 km WB IP track number and the WB class Road.
The Indonesian bicycle racing team coach, Fadilah Umar, expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the athletes who incidentally were newcomers in the international event.
Vanza and Zulaika are the results of selection from the National Paralympics Week (Peparnas) XVII Solo 2024, which is one of the talent search events of potential disabled athletes.
“The medal achievement in Thailand is in accordance with the targets and targets that we have planned. This is an evaluation material for training programs that have been undertaken, as well as providing experience of competing and implementing strategies at the international level for these two new athletes,” Fadilah Umar said when met in Solo, Monday (4/8/2025).
According to him, participating in this kind of international championship is a must for new athletes to get an official classification from Union Cycliste International (UCI), a world bicycle racing federation.
“The championship in Thailand is the basis for entering the championship quota with a higher grade. The higher the grade followed, the greater the points obtained. This is important for the process of the Asian Para Games and Paralympics,” explained Fadilah.
The Champion Solutions of the Cycling Cup 2025 itself is included in the official Calendar of UCI with the C2 category classification.
The gold medalist athlete in this category is entitled to 15 points, which is an important accumulation to determine the world ranking and the feasibility of participating in the event with a higher category.
Fadilah said that the focus of coaching for Vanza and Zulaika was directed at long -term targets.
“Their age is still young and potential. We prepare gradually to become Indonesian mainstay athletes in the future,” he said.
However, in the near future, both are also projected to strengthen the Indonesian contingent at the ASEAN Para Games 2025 which will also be held in Thailand at the beginning of the coming year.
“Competition in Southeast Asia is quite tight, especially from Thailand and Vietnam. Therefore, the experiences and points collected from events like this are very valuable as preparation,” Fadilah continued.
The success of Vanza and Zulaika showed that the regeneration of athletes in the sports branch of bicycle racing was positive.
Their presence opens new hopes for higher achievements, including the Asian Para Games and Paralympics qualifications that require accumulation of points and sufficient international flight hours.
Fadilah hopes that sustainable development and consistent exposure of competition can hone the abilities of the two athletes.
“We are optimistic that they can develop faster with the support of national training and measurable international competing programs,” he said.
With the incision of six medals at the beginning of their international career, Vanza Miftahul Jannah and Zulaika have proven that Indonesia has great potential in the arena of world cycling.
