Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo received a visit from the President of the World Badminton Federation (BWF) Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul in Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Sunday (8/6).

This visit is part of a strategic effort to strengthen Indonesia’s relations with BWF and explore opportunities for cooperation in organizing international badminton tournaments.

In the review, Khunying Patama directly saw sports facilities in the Bung Karno Gelora area, Senayan.

He seemed enthusiastic and expressed his admiration for the splendor and completeness of the facilities owned by Indonesia Arena.

“This facility is extraordinary. Indonesia Arena has great potential to host various world -class badminton events,” Khunying Patama said during a dialogue with the Menpora Dito at the location.

As a form of follow -up, Khunying Patama officially delivered an offer to Indonesia to host the two main BWF tournaments, namely Sudirman Cup 2027 and the Thomas Cup and Uber 2028.

The offer was given after he conducted a direct review of the readiness of existing infrastructure.

“Indonesia is a very important country for the world of badminton. Traditions, history, and achievement of its athletes make Indonesia Strategic Partners BWF. We really hope that Indonesia is willing to host these two big events,” Khunying said.

The Menpora Dito welcomed the offer positively and stated that the government would immediately discuss it together with related stakeholders, both at the ministry, local governments, and national sports associations.

“This is a great opportunity to show Indonesia’s capacity as a world sports center, especially in the badminton branch which is indeed the pride of the nation. We will study this offer as a whole and followed up with cross -sectoral coordination,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

According to Dito, Indonesia has a positive track record in holding various international sports events, ranging from the 2018 Asian Games to world -class badminton tournaments such as the Indonesia Open and the Indonesia Masters.

Therefore, the offer from BWF is considered in line with the government’s vision in strengthening sports diplomacy and increasing Indonesia’s role on the global stage.

Khunying Patama’s visit is also an important momentum to open a dialogue space between international sports organizations and the Indonesian government.

In addition to discussing the organization of the tournament, both of them also discussed about Indonesia’s badminton development strategies on a sustainable manner.

“In addition to being a host, we also want to make badminton as one of the nation’s diplomacy tools and the medium of fostering the younger generation. The role of BWF is certainly very important in supporting the direction of this policy,” added the Menpora.

Indonesia Arena which is the location of the visit has a capacity of more than 16,000 spectators and has been equipped with various international standard facilities.

This arena was previously used as the main venue of the Fiba World Cup 2023 event and is now developed into a center for sports activities and large -scale performances.

With an increasingly modern infrastructure and strong support from the government, Indonesia is believed to have full readiness to hold global sports events.

The offer to host Sudirman Cup and the Thomas-Uber Cup is expected to be an initial foothold towards a greater achievement in the field of national sports.

The Menpora also emphasized that active involvement in international events not only had an impact on achievement, but also had extensive economic, social and diplomatic effects.

Therefore, the government is committed to continuing to encourage collaboration with world sports organizations to improve Indonesia’s position as the main force in the sports industry.
