Forward fingers 98 Call Governor Sherly responsibility for free 11 Indonesian Sangaji Maba activists – the latest Indonesian viral

VIRALTERKINI.ID, JAKARTA – The 1998 Indonesian Reform Activist Network (Forward Jari 98) asked the Governor of North Maluku, Sherly Tjoanda to help free 11 Maba Sangaji Village activists who were arrested by the police for rejecting nickel mining carried out by PT Position in East Halmahera. Forward Finger Coordinator 98, Rahman Thoha said as the highest regional leader, Governor Sherly should have a moral responsibility to defend the interests of his people in maintaining customary heritage.

“Governor Sherly Tjoanda could not dodge. He must be responsible for morally trying to free 11 activists of Sangaji Maba Village who clearly wanted to maintain the customary land and ancestral heritage. This is a test of governor Sherly’s partiality to the community,” Rahman said in a statement to the media, Wednesday (6/8) afternoon.

According to Rahman, for Governor Sherly, efforts to exempit activists from Maba Sangaji Village today may be far more important than other problems. The reason is because the arrests carried out on 11 MABA Sangaji Village activists became the test stone whether the criminalization will be the choice of the North Maluku Regional Police in dealing with the issue of customary land disputes. Governor Sherly, he said, must show his alignments on the main problems faced by the community, such as customary land disputes and environmental pollution.

“There are thousands of customary land in North Maluku. If Governor Sherly does not show his partisanship then this incident will almost be sure to repeat and target other North Maluku residents. For that reason, if you want to cut or stop this issue, then 11 activists of the Sangaji Maba Village must be released. Governor Sherly must show its partisanship,” he explained.

Rahmat also believes that 11 activists of Sangaji Maba Village are innocent. The reason is, according to him, the eleven activists are only trying to maintain their customary land from mining damage. Moreover, the mining exploration activity also makes the river and the environment in the village of Maba Sangaji become polluted.
