Event Tour de Ijen 2025 was released by the Menpora, pushing Banyuwangi into a sport tourism destination

Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI), Dito Ariotedjo, officially released the fourth stage participants as well as the last Tour of De Banyuwangi Ijen (TDBI) 2025 at Paltuding Ijen, Banyuwangi, East Java, Thursday (7/31/2025).

This fourth stage traveled a distance of 150 kilometers and marked the end of the international bicycle racing event that had been held for the 10th time.

In his remarks, the Menpora Dito stressed the importance of sports events such as TDBI in boosting the image and potential of the regions in the global arena.

He appreciated the consistency of Banyuwangi in organizing an international -scale event that not only strengthened the sports sector, but also tourism and local economy.

“I am very happy with the implementation of this international bicycle racing championship, because this is an example of how to promote regions by strengthening local characteristics such as Ijen Crater. Through this event, the world can increasingly recognize the beauty of Banyuwangi,” said the Menpora Dito.

He added, championships such as TDBI have a multidimensional impact. In addition to increasing hotel occupancy, transportation sector, and MSME purchasing power, this event also creates new jobs, attracting investment, and strengthening regional branding globally.

This year, TDBI was joined by 20 teams from 24 countries, including from Estonia, Italy, and Saudi Arabia, which for the first time participated.

Of the total 44 teams that registered, only 20 passed the selection based on UCI ranking and the quality of athletes.

“If last year it was only followed by around 10 clubs, now 20 clubs from various countries. This shows that TDBI is increasingly in demand by the international bicycle racing community,” Dito said.

He hopes that in the future the number of participants will continue to grow and more and more countries will take part.

“I hope that next year there will be more and more participants from all over the world. I also hope to be present longer in Banyuwangi to witness the whole course of the competition,” he said.

The Menpora also expressed his appreciation to all parties who had contributed to the success of this event, starting from the local government, the organizing committee, sponsors, to the Banyuwangi community.

He considered the synergy of all parties had made TDBI one of Indonesia’s leading sport tourism events.

“To the Banyuwangi Regional Government, the committee, sponsors, and all parties who have supported the implementation of the Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen, I thank the maximum gratitude and appreciation,” said Menpora Dito.

The Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani, on the same occasion said that TDBI has become a consistent regional sport tourism icon that has been held over the past decade.

In addition to lifting bicycle sports, this event is also a medium of promotion of superior tourist destinations Banyuwangi.

“TDBI is not only a sports event, but has become part of the Banyuwangi tourism promotion effort. This is a form of our consistency in holding quality sports tourism for 10 years in a row,” Ipuk said.

TDBI 2025 takes a total distance of 593 kilometers divided into four challenging stages and presents a typical panoramic panorama of Banyuwangi.

The first stage took the Pesanggaran Market route – Banyuwangi Regent’s Office as far as 125.5 km. The second stage starts from Alas Purwo to the Banyuwangi Regent’s office with a distance of 158.8 km.

While the third stage took the route from RH Glenmore to the regent’s office as far as 140.3 km. The fourth stage as well as the cover, starting from the RTH Maron Genteng to Paltuding Ijen as far as 150 km.

This event also shows the great potential of sports as an instrument of cultural and economic diplomacy.

The participation of 24 countries in TDBI 2025 is a clear proof that Banyuwangi has succeeded in lifting Indonesia’s positive image in the eyes of the world through sports.

With the success of the implementation of TDBI 2025, Banyuwangi emphasized its position as one of the main destinations of Sport Tourism in Indonesia.

The local government also hopes that TDBI will continue to grow and enter the international event calendar which is awaited every year.
