Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – The Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) confirms its commitment to provide maximum protection to athletes who are victims of alleged abuse of rock climbing athletes. The Federation ensures that the identities of the victims will be kept confidential to prevent social stigma which could worsen their psychological condition.
This statement was made by FPTI General Chair Yenny Wahid after attending the 74th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Olympic Committee at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta on Wednesday (11/3/2026).
Yenny emphasized that protecting victims is the federation’s top priority. According to him, victims should not experience social pressure again after having the courage to report the alleged violence or harassment they have experienced.
“We provide maximum protection for the victim athletes. That’s why we also keep their identities confidential. They should not become victims twice because of the stigma in society,” said Yenny to the media crew.
This case of alleged harassment of rock climbing athletes has become a serious concern for various parties, including the government and the national sports community. FPTI also took quick steps by forming a fact-finding team to investigate the veracity of the reports that emerged.
Yenny explained that the fact-finding team was formed internally by FPTI with the aim of collecting various relevant information and facts related to the reported cases. This team will work independently to ensure the investigation process is objective and transparent.
According to him, the fact-finding team has started work and scheduled a summons for the alleged perpetrator on Thursday (12/3/2026). The federation has also sent an official letter to the person concerned.
“The team has sent a summons to the alleged perpetrator. Apart from that, they have also been contacted via WhatsApp message,” explained Yenny.
This step was taken as part of the federation’s efforts to ensure that all parties involved can provide information so that the true facts can be revealed.
FPTI also emphasized that the internal investigation process will not interfere with the ongoing legal process. This is because the alleged harassment case has been officially reported by the victims to the police.
According to Yenny, the two processes – namely the federation’s internal investigation and the legal process – will run in parallel.
“There are two processes running side by side. The first is the FPTI internal process through a fact-finding team, and the second is the legal process that is already underway in the police,” he said.
Apart from that, FPTI also provides legal assistance for victims. The Federation prepares lawyers to accompany athletes during the legal process so that they receive proper protection and justice.
Yenny emphasized that the main aim of this step is to ensure that athletes continue to live a dignified life after experiencing unpleasant events.
“We want to protect them so they can still live a dignified life and obtain justice,” said Yenny.
The efforts made by FPTI received support from the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, Erick Thohir. He considered that the formation of a fact-finding team was the right step to reveal the truth objectively.
According to Erick, investigations carried out by sports federations are very important to ensure that any alleged violations are handled professionally and transparently.
“The formation of a fact-finding team is the right step and is proof of serious handling by FPTI to ensure that every information and fact can be studied in depth,” said Erick.
He hopes that the process can run objectively, professionally and thoroughly so that it can provide clarity on the cases that occurred and ensure justice for the victims.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), continued Erick, will continue to monitor developments in handling this case. The government is also ready to coordinate with various related parties to ensure the legal process runs smoothly.
This monitoring step was carried out as part of the government’s commitment to creating a safe sports environment for athletes.
Erick emphasized that the world of sports must be a space that is free from all forms of violence or harassment. Athletes who have struggled to carry the name of the nation should not be victims of treatment that demeans their dignity.
With serious handling from the federation, government support, and ongoing legal processes, it is hoped that cases of alleged abuse of rock climbing athletes can be resolved transparently and fairly.
In the future, FPTI is also committed to strengthening the protection system for athletes so that similar cases do not occur again in the national sports environment.
These steps include improving reporting mechanisms, monitoring coaches and officials, as well as educating all sports people about the importance of creating a safe and professional training environment for athletes.
