Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Chairperson of the All Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, emphasized the commitment of the national football federation to always respect copyright and support government policies related to the use of music works in sports activities, especially national team matches.
The affirmation was conveyed by Erick after coordinating with the Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, in Jakarta, Monday (8/18/2025).
During the meeting, both discussed copyright regulations and the practice of their use at the stadium.
“In the state, all there are rules. When discussing with the Minister of Law, I emphasize that PSSI fully supports government policies. He also said that national songs have clearly become the public domain, so there is no need to be debated again,” said Erick.
Erick explained that this coordination is important to ensure national football runs in line with state regulations, without forgetting respect for the work of musicians.
According to him, PSSI did not close his eyes to the use of commercial songs that are often played or performed in supporting the national team.
“For example, when PSSI collaborated with God Bless to bring our home song. It was all done with a clear process. We involved directly the owner of the work, because I believe the songwriters must get a decent appreciation,” said Erick.
He added, the use of songs in the stadium is not just entertainment, but also an important part of the atmosphere of the match that affects the spirit of players as well as the unity of supporters.
As a concrete form of respect, Erick revealed PSSI’s plan with the Ministry of Law to meet the family of the late Ibu Sud, the creator of the song of the country of the country.
The song is often sung by players and supporters of the national team in various international matches.
“God willing, a few moments in the future we and the Minister of Law will meet the family of Mrs. Sud. We want to pay respect for his eternal work, as well as reminding that the heroes of songwriters also have a major contribution that should not be forgotten,” said Erick.
Erick assessed that the songs of struggle and nationality have extraordinary emotional power in building a sense of nationalism.
“When players sing my homeland on the field, their euphorians are extraordinary. Some even shed tears. Songs like this are not just entertainment, but unifying the nation. Therefore, we must live the mechanism of use correctly and proportionally,” he said.
Furthermore, Erick stressed that PSSI is committed to making copyright respect as a standard in every soccer activity.
This includes playing songs in the stadium, making digital content, to collaboration with musicians.
According to Erick, respect for copyright is not only a matter of legal compliance, but also a form of appreciation for the work of art that is an important part of the nation’s identity.
He reminded that musicians and songwriters played a major role in building a positive atmosphere in the world of sports.
“The use of national anthem and song struggle in the stadium not only presents euphoria, but strengthens a sense of unity. However, if it involves commercial songs, PSSI will still respect the copyright and applicable procedures,” explained Erick.
PSSI steps in establishing collaboration with national musicians are considered as a strategic effort to enrich the experience of supporters while maintaining legal compliance.
Collaboration with the legendary music group God Bless is one example of success that is appreciated by the public.
PSSI hopes that this pattern of collaboration can be expanded in the future, so that more and more Indonesian musicians will get space to work while inspiring the younger generation through football.
“Football is not only a matter of matches on the field, but also the culture and identity of the nation. Music is part of it. Then this collaboration must be carried out with full respect,” said Erick.
On the other hand, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas stressed that the national anthem has become a public domain so that it is not subject to copyright rules.
However, for commercial songs, licensing and respect procedures must still be carried out.
The government, according to Supratman, encourages other sports federations to emulate the steps of PSSI that is actively coordinating in copyright affairs.
Thus, there is no more debate related to the use of songs in the sports arena.
Erick closed by emphasizing PSSI’s commitment.
“We want to show that Indonesian football is not only advanced in the field, but also in terms of respect for artwork. All of this is to maintain the unity, pride, and good name of the nation,” he said.
With this attitude, PSSI under the leadership of Erick Thohir hopes to be able to present a modern, professional, and still respect for noble values, including respect for the copyright of Indonesian artists.
