Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) continues to monitor the development of the situation and handling of various natural disasters that occurred in Indonesia, towards the end of July 2025.
A number of areas reportedly experienced a hydrometeorological and geological disaster, ranging from earthquakes, land movements, to forest and land fires (forest and land fires).
The earthquake shook Poso, thousands of residents were displaced
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 shook Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday (24/7).
According to a report on the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), until Thursday night there were still aftershocks felt by residents.
Temporary data recorded as many as 4 people suffered minor injuries and 609 families (2,011 people) had to evacuate.
In addition, the earthquake caused damage to infrastructure, including 14 houses heavily damaged and 21 houses were slightly damaged.
Educational facilities and houses of worship are also affected, each suffered minor damage.

Land moves in Brebes, hundreds of residents are affected
Meanwhile, the land movement disaster still occurs in Sridadi Village, Sirampog District, Brebes Regency, Central Java.
The incident which began in early July 2025 had caused significant damage to residents’ settlements.
BPBD Brebes noted that until Thursday (24/7), as many as 58 houses suffered heavy damage, 1 house was moderately damaged, and 19 houses were slightly damaged.
A total of 100 families (335 people) were affected, and 201 people were forced to evacuate to a safe place, both in the house of relatives and nearest neighbors.
Karhutla extends in Sumatra and Kalimantan
BNPB also reported an increase in the number of forest and land fires in a number of provinces, especially in the regions of Sumatra, Kalimantan, and parts of Java.
In South Sumatra, Karhutla occurred in several districts such as Musi Rawas, Muara Enim, Ogan Ilir, and Pali.
Although the fire was extinguished until Wednesday (7/23), BPBD recorded 2,543 hotspots since the beginning of the year, with a total burning area of 43.08 hectares.
West Sumatra Province also faces forest and land fires in Limapuluh Kota Regency, precisely in Nagari Tarantang.
The fire that began on Saturday (12/7) has not been fully extinguished due to water supply constraints.
It is feared that the fire spread to residential areas, with 22 nagari in 10 affected districts.
In Padang Lawas, North Sumatra, forest fires occurred on Sunday (7/20) in three villages spread across three districts.
Until Thursday (24/7), the burning area reached 435 hectares. Some hotspots are still active, especially in Marenu Village, Aek Nabara Barumun District.
Other areas in Sumatra affected by Karhutla are Simalungun and Labuhanbatu Regencies. In Simalungun, forest and land fires have been extinguished with a burning area of 60 hectares.
In Labuhanbatu, hotspots are still active in Panai Hilir District, while in Central Panai has been extinguished.
Riau is a priority area for handling forest and land fire
Riau Province is one of the priority areas in handling forest and land fire this year. Until Thursday (24/7), forest fires still occur at several points.
BNPB highlighted Riau as a region of forest and land fires that require more intensive prevention steps. The burning area of land in this province reached 1,144.90 hectares throughout 2025.
Kalimantan Alert Emergency Karhutla
In West Kalimantan, BNPB recorded 17 hotspots on Thursday (24/7) which then reduced to three points in the afternoon.
The provincial and Kubu Raya regency governments have set the emergency alert status handling forest and land fires. The joint team continues to make an extinguishing and cooling effort.
In Central Kalimantan, forest fires were monitored in the Palangkaraya City and East Kotawaringin Regency.
The fire was extinguished on the same day, with a total burning land area of 201.03 hectares.
Fire warnings on Java and Aceh
BNPB also warned that most of Java, Aceh, and Kalimantan were in an easy to very flammable level, based on the level of drought of the upper layer of land.
Appeal to prevent BNPB
Responding to this situation, BNPB appealed to all local governments to strengthen prevention steps.
The Head of BNPB stressed that prevention is more effective than overcoming when forest and land fires are widespread.
Joint patrols involving related agencies and community participation are considered important to reduce disaster risk.
BNPB will continue to update information and coordinate with BPBD in the regions to ensure fast and appropriate responses to all disaster events in the country.
