VIRALTERKINI.ID, JAKARTA – The All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) officially appointed Alexander Thijs Jetse Zwiers as Director of Engineering (Dirtek) of the Indonesian National Team.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Hotel Mulia, Jakarta, Monday (8/25/2025), ending the long wait for the federation to fill this strategic position.
The appointment of the 52 -year -old Dutch man became an important step for PSSI to strengthen the structure of national football development and development.
Zwiers is not a foreign figure in the world of coaching. With the experience of cross -continent, ranging from Europe, the Middle East, to Latin America, he brought a reputation as the developer of the philosophy of games and successful young talents.
Before receiving PSSI’s offer, Alexander Zwiers served as Director of the Yordanian Football Federation Engineering (JFA) since 2019.
Under his leadership, Jordan recorded history by qualifying for the 2023 Asian Cup final in Qatar, the best achievement in the history of the country’s football.
Zwiers’ career began in the Netherlands as an academy coach at the Cambuur and FC Groningen club.
In 2002, he got his first international opportunity by handling the Qatar U-15 national team. After that, he pursued a career in the Middle East region, training the Al Garafa Academy (2006-2008) and Al Expert (2008-2012).
The name Zwiers was also recorded on the American continent when he worked with football legend Johan Cruyff at the Mexican club, Chivas Guadalajara, in 2012-2013.
At that time, Cruyff served as technical advisors, while Zwiers managed the U-14 and U-16 academy as well as occupying the position of Assistant Director of Engineering.
His career footprint continued in Kazakhstan as Technical Manager of Kairat Almaty (2013-2014), then joined the elite clubs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He became the Technical Manager of Al Shabab (2014-2015) and then the Technical Director of Al Wahda (2015-2018), before finally receiving an offer from the Jordanian Federation.
The track record complements the portfolio as an experienced figure in the development of young players, improving the quality of coaches, and technical management of the national team.
In Indonesia, Zwiers will continue the task that was previously carried out by Indra Sjafri as the Acting Director of Engineering.
This position has a vital role, not only to build the philosophy of national team games, but also designs a tiered coaching system from young age to senior level.
According to PSSI’s official statement, the Technical Director is responsible for ensuring that every coaching program runs consistently and according to the vision of the federation.
This includes the development of young players, improving the quality of coaches, to coordination between departments, including data analysis, sports medicine, and competition management.
“Indonesian football has great potential. I come not only to give a strategy, but also help create a sustainable system for the future,” Zwiers said when introduced.
Great hope for the future of the national team
The appointment of Zwiers is expected to be the first step towards comprehensive improvement.
PSSI targets the presence of new technical directors to be able to strengthen the philosophy of clear games, improve the quality of young competition, and build a system that is in line with the trend of modern football.
PSSI also stressed the importance of the continuity of the program, so that every stage of coaching produces players with strong character, able to compete at the Asian level, even the world. In the long run, the success of young fostering will determine the achievements of the senior national team.
“This is a long -term project. We want to ensure that all elements move according to the specified direction,” PSSI representative said in his official statement.
With a solid track record, the public puts high expectations on Zwiers to bring significant changes.
However, the challenges he faced were not light. Consistency in the implementation of programs, improving the quality of competition, and coordination with regional stakeholders will be the key to success.
Zwiers himself realized this. “This is not a job for one or two years, but a large project that requires the cooperation of all parties,” he said.
He emphasized that his commitment to strengthen the foundation of firm coaching, in order to realize the long -term target of PSSI.
With a clear vision and broad experience, the presence of Alexander Zwiers is expected to be the starting point for a new era of Indonesian football that is more directed, professional, and competitive in the international arena.
