Viralterkini.idJakarta – Approaching Ramadan 2026, online shopping activity in Indonesia is projected to increase again in line with the wider adoption of digital channels by the public. Bank Indonesia data records that the value of eCommerce transactions will reach IDR 44.4 trillion in July 2025 and is expected to continue to grow every year.
Based on Bank Indonesia projections and various digital industry reports, the value of national eCommerce transactions is predicted to increase by double digits every year. The momentum of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr has historically been the peak of people’s digital consumption, from fashion, food, electronics, to equipment for worship and going home.
This trend shows the increasingly vital role of eCommerce in meeting people’s needs during the holy month. One of the platforms that has started a special campaign is Lazada Indonesia through the Lazada Ramadan Daily Sale program which runs from 16 February to 24 March 2026.
Cyber Threats Are Increasing
Behind the surge in digital transactions, the threat of cybercrime also tends to increase. Various reports from national cyber security institutions show that phishing and social engineering attacks often increase significantly ahead of big shopping periods such as Ramadan and National Holidays.

Chairman of the Communication & Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC), Pratama Persadha, revealed that the most commonly found methods include instant message-based phishing, customer service impersonation, and misuse of fake delivery tracking links.
“The security risk of online transactions is still a real challenge in Indonesia and is a shared responsibility. In the midst of increasing online shopping activities, especially ahead of Ramadan, consumers need to be increasingly alert to the increasingly diverse modes of digital fraud,” said Pratama.
He emphasized the importance of digital security literacy so that people can enjoy the convenience of eCommerce without sacrificing security and comfort.
Five Tips for Safe Online Shopping
To support customer safety during the Lazada Ramadan Daily Sale, Pratama and Lazada share five practical tips:
- Use a Strong and Unique Password
Change passwords regularly with a combination of letters, numbers and special characters. Avoid using the same password on various accounts. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) or biometric verification for added protection. - Transactions Only on the Official Platform
Make sure to shop via the official application or website. Avoid communications and transactions outside the platform. If someone claims that an employee or courier is asking for personal data through unofficial channels, immediately report it to Customer Care. - Don’t Click on Links from Unofficial Channels
The latest method is often in the name of logistics services with fake tracking links. Package status information is available in real-time on the official application, so consumers don’t need to access suspicious links. - Be Aware of App Installation or Screen Sharing Requests
Scammers often ask victims to install APK files outside of official app stores or enable screen sharing features. Official eCommerce platforms, banks, or logistics companies never require this to process transactions or refunds. - Don’t Share OTP Codes and Personal Data
The OTP code is confidential and is only used to verify identity. Never give it to anyone, including parties claiming to be from the platform.
In addition, consumers are advised to shop at trusted stores such as the LazMall channel which guarantees genuine products, and utilize AI-based shopping assistant features for a safer and more comfortable experience.
Joint Role to Strengthen Digital Security
Pratama emphasized that strengthening cyber security cannot only rely on platforms, but also requires user awareness. This is in line with the spirit of the Personal Data Protection Law which emphasizes the importance of protecting personal information as a basic right of citizens.
Meanwhile, Lazada Indonesia’s Head of Customer Experience, Intan Eugenia, stated that his party continues to strengthen its security system, monitor transactions, and ensure that the customer service team is ready to help whenever needed.
“If there are indications of an account breach or unauthorized transaction, immediately contact the platform, report it to the bank or digital wallet provider for blocking, and immediately change your account password,” he said.
With increased digital security awareness and literacy, it is hoped that people can enjoy a Ramadan shopping experience that is not only profitable, but also safe and trustworthy. (rby)
