Accelerate Jabodetabek Flood Management, BNPB Continues Indonesia’s Latest Weather Modification Operation

Viralterkini.id, Jakarta -In an effort to accelerate flood emergency handling in the Greater Jakarta area, BNPB conducted Weather Modification Operations (OMC) on 7-11 July 2025.

Weather modification operations are carried out based on weather data from BMKG which shows the potential for moderate to dense intensity in the Jakarta, West Java, Banten, and surrounding days in the next few days.

This operation was centered at the Base Ops Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta.

On Monday (7/7) a Cessna 208 Caravan PK-DPI aircraft was held with 800 kg of Sodium Chloride (NaCl). Seeding is carried out in the Coastal Sky of Banten and Lebak.

On Tuesday (8/7), BNPB added a Cessna Caravan PK-SNL fleet to maximize the operation of accelerating the Jabodetabek flood emergency treatment.

With the addition of the fleet, on Tuesday a total of six sort of NaCl’s seeding flights.

Two sort of PK-SNL flights today carried out seeding in the southern waters of West Java and the waters of the north of the West Java Sea.

This seeding aims to reduce the mass of air mass that has the potential to enter the West Java and Jakarta regions. This seeding spent a total of 2,000 kg of NaCl.

Four Sorti flights PK-DPI air in the north coast of Karawang and Subang and the north coast of Indramayu. Each of the sort of the flight of this aircraft carried 800 kg of NaCl.

Based on post -OMC field observations, today the areas of Jakarta, Bekasi and surrounding areas are monitored not rain.

Weather forecast for the next two days

Based on BMKG weather forecasts, the potential for extreme weather in the next three days for the Jabodetabek region was monitored.

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, weather forecasts for the DKI Jakarta region showed extreme weather free, while for Banten and West Java, extreme weather in the form of strong winds has the potential to occur in the region.

The potential for strong winds will also continue in the Banten region on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Recommendations for the regional government and the community

Responding to the dangers triggered by hydrometeorological factors, BNPB urged local governments and residents to always be vigilant and ready.

Related to wet hydrometeorology, especially floods, landslides, and strong winds, BNPB has provided support, including weather modification operations.

BNPB requested synergy of pentaheliks in the prevention and control of wet hydrometeorological disasters such as checking embankments or talud, cleaning primary drainage channels, and tree pruning.

BNPB appealed to all people in disaster -prone areas to increase alertness to the potential of wet hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides, and strong winds given the high intensity of rain in some areas.
