Johan Budi Reveals Secret Conversation with Jokowi regarding Revision of the KPK Law

Viralterkini.id – Former spokesperson for the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Johan Budi Sapto Pribowo, stated that the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law in 2017–2018 was initially an initiative of the DPR.

This statement was conveyed by Johan Budi in the program gas pole Kompas.com entitled “3 Presidents, 3 Spokesmen, 3 Scandals that Attack the Palace” which will be broadcast on October 28 2025.

“At that time the DPR was already meeting, just waiting for the President’s decision, whether he agreed or not. Previously it was the DPR’s initiative, the revision of the 2017, 2018 Corruption Eradication Commission Law,” said Johan, quoted Wednesday (18/2/2026).

Jokowi was in the US at that time

In mid-2017 and 2018, Johan still served as President Jokowi’s spokesperson. While the DPR is waiting for a decision regarding the revision of the KPK Law, Jokowi is in the United States.

Johan, who is in Jakarta, is trying to contact the President to convey important information regarding the DPR’s plans.

“I contacted the aide, then the aide answered, ‘Mr Johan, I’m sorry, you’re already at the contest,’ meaning he’s already in the room,” explained Johan.

Johan’s advice to the President

After that, Johan received a call from Jokowi asking for input regarding the revision of the KPK Law. Johan believes that the revision is inappropriate because the Corruption Eradication Committee Law was born from reform and received strong resistance from anti-corruption groups.

“Pak Jokowi asked, ‘What do you think, Pak Johan?’ “I answered, ‘Don’t revise it, sir, because this was born out of reform and anti-corruption groups strongly oppose it,'” said Johan.

Johan added that the government needs the support of these groups, especially in efforts to eradicate corruption.

Jokowi’s Official Statement

Johan then proposed to convey the President’s official statement to the public: that a decision regarding the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law had not yet been taken and currently Law Number 30 of 2002 was still needed.

“I suggested, ‘Sir, how about I convey a statement that to this day the President has not decided to revise the Corruption Eradication Committee Law. Because Law 30 of 2002 is still needed,'” said Johan. (**)
