Geothermal Soccer Championship 2025 Encourage Energy Transition through Sports – Indonesia’s Latest Viral

In addition to the main match, this tournament also presents awards for the best players, top scorers, to the best supporters as a form of appreciation for the sportsmanship of all participants.

Chairman of the committee Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (iigce) 2025, Ismoyo Argoasserted that this tournament was born from the spirit of togetherness.

“It was the first time it was held, this tournament was an initiative to increase the cohesiveness of geothermal stakeholders. Solidarity is increasing, sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork, and creativity present through sports. All geothermal interests can unite, and through this activity, our industry is increasingly solid to advance geothermal in Indonesia,” explained Ismoyo.

“President Prabowo has stressed the importance of energy self -sufficiency. Geothermal is one of the solutions because Indonesia has the largest reserves in the world, even though its development is still running slowly. With this initiative, acceleration steps are increasingly open,” said Julfi.

The government also provides full support for the implementation of this tournament.

For the record, Indonesia has the second largest geothermal reserves in the world with the potential to reach more than 28 gigawatts.

However, the use is only around 10 percent of the total potential. The government is targeting a significant increase in capacity to support the national energy mix, in line with the net zero emission target in 2060.
