The young basketball incident, the Merpati Bali and PS Roar coach, was sentenced to Indonesia’s latest sanctions

Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – The Independent Implementation Committee for the National Championship (National Championship) of the 2025 U16 Club imposed strict sanctions on two participating team coaches, namely Aldion Christian Aditia from Merpati Bali and Amin Prihantono from PS Roar Basketball Jakarta.

This decision was taken following the controversial incident that occurred in the match between the two teams at GOR Unesa, Surabaya, on Tuesday night, July 22, 2025.

In the official decree, the organizing committee stated that the two coaches were not allowed to assist their respective teams until the U16 and U18 clubs this year ended.

In addition, the Minutes and Video Records of the incident have been reported to the Central Board (DPP) of the All Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) for further action.

The following is the contents of the Panpel Decree:

1. Sanctions to the head coach of the Bali Merpati Team (Aldion Christian Aditia) and the head coach of the Jakarta PS Roar Basketball Team (Amin Prihantono) may not accompany the team until completed at Mandiri National Championship U16 and U18 in 2025.

2. Report the minutes and video recordings to the Perbasi DPP and submit further decisions to the Perbasi DPP.

The sanctions were taken based on the results of the implementing committee judges’ meeting which was held immediately after the match.

This decision was welcomed by the person in charge of the National Championship, Azrul Ananda, who emphasized the importance of maintaining the values of sportsmanship in fostering young athletes.

“I support the decision taken by the organizing committee. This decision was taken based on direct observations, video reviews, and recognition from related parties,” Azrul said.

Azrul regretted the incident which according to him injured the spirit of sportsmanship and the process of coaching.

He asserted that this kind of incident should be an important lesson for all parties involved in the young basketball world.

“We must be firm. This is a valuable learning for the organizers, participants, to the Indonesian basketball community. Things like this should not happen again, especially at the level of coaching. This is a young age group, and this incident could be a bad precedent,” Azrul added.

The incident in question occurred in the remaining 22 seconds of the final match, when Merpati Bali ahead of 67-65 over PS Roar.

In the Situation of Group F standings, Merpati Bali needs a victory with a minimum difference of nine points to qualify for the playoffs.

While PS Roar can still advance to the next phase, as long as it is not inferior to the margin of more than eight points.

Taking into account the calculation, Merpati Bali controversially takes unusual actions by inserting the ball into the ring itself.

This action is thought to be an effort to force the match to continue to the overtime round, in order to pursue the target difference of points needed.

The controversial strategy has drawn protests from various parties, including from the opposing team. The match finally ended with a score of 67-66 to win Merpati Bali, but the result was not enough to make them qualify. PS Roar continued to advance to the playoffs as representatives of Group F.
