Thanks to KONI and Dispora DKI Jakarta, Korfball DKI Jakarta Represents Indonesia at the IKF Korfball Asia Cup 2025

Viralterkini.id, JAKARTA – Indonesia will appear with a new composition at the International Korfball Federation (IKF) Korfball Asia Cup 2025 which will take place on 9–14 December 2025 at the National Sport Complex, Shah Alam, Malaysia.

The drawing for the championship was held on November 18 2025, with a total of eight participating countries divided into two groups.

The General Chairperson of Korfball DKI Jakarta, Adi Dwiariono, explained that the number of participants this year was less than in the previous edition.

“This year only eight countries are competing, different from the previous one which reached 11 participating countries in 2024 in Hong Kong,” he said during the final photo and training session before leaving for Malaysia at the Tifosi Sport Center Jakarta, Saturday (6/12/2025).

The tournament is divided into two groups, each containing four countries with a fairly tight world ranking composition:

Group A: Chinese Taipei (3rd in the world), Malaysia (12), Thailand (16), Japan (21).

Group B: Indonesia (35), Hong Kong (9), China (14), India (17).

With Indonesia’s position in 35th place in the world, big challenges are sure to await coach Irma Amelya’s team.

Indonesia appeared with a new format: all members of the national team came from Korfball DKI Jakarta, the overall champion of PON 2024.

“This time the full team is the DKI Jakarta Korfball team. They represent Indonesia under the name Indonesia,” explained Adi. “These are the players from Korfball DKI who won PON 2024.”

Adi said that this change in composition was inseparable from the full support of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, Dispora and KONI DKI Jakarta, including the financing aspect.

“Thank God, we are always supported by the DKI Jakarta provincial government and KONI DKI Jakarta,” he said.

Indonesia sent 23 contingent members, consisting of 16 athletes (8 men and 8 women) and officials.

This is Indonesia’s second participation in the IKF Korfball Asia Cup under the management of Ketum PP. PKSI Rian Putra Utama, even though previously the Indonesian team had appeared several times on the official IKF agenda at international level.

Adi said that DKI Jakarta’s consistent performance was the basis for selecting the team composition.

“Last year DKI won 3rd place in the Malaysian Korfball League. That was between clubs. But if this is between countries, the official IKF agenda,” he stressed.

The captain of the Indonesian team, Yuliana, stated that Indonesia’s target is to appear solid and improve its world ranking.

“Currently we are ranked 35th, realistically it could rise to the 20s,” he said. He considered Malaysia (ranked 12th) and Thailand (16th) as two Southeast Asian powers which are important benchmarks.

Acting Secretary General of PP PKSI, Mochamad Krisna Desto, explained that the appointment of DKI Jakarta as Indonesia’s representative was made because they won the overall champion of PON 2024. .

“PP PKSI gives everything to DKI Jakarta because they are the overall champions of PON 2024. The hope is that with this fully prepared team they can achieve maximum results and improve their world ranking,” said Mochamad Krisna Desto.

He added that PP PKSI continues to communicate with IKF Asia to ensure moral support and recommendations for the team.

“We want DKI friends to also feel the presence of PP PKSI. We provide support, recommendations and moral support,” he explained.

Head coach, Irma Amelya, said that the team underwent intensive training five times a week.

“Because Korfball DKI is undergoing a lot of regeneration, there are a lot of junior players. Hopefully we will get maximum results,” he said.

Indonesia also sees a great opportunity to host other IKF agendas next year.

“Hopefully in 2026 korfball will be competed in the Beach PON which is planned to be held in Jakarta,” said Adi.

Koni DKI provides assistance for departure, accommodation and team operations.

“Thank God, all our activities are always supported by KONI and the DKI Jakarta Dispora,” said Adi.

Indonesia hopes that the new solid and consistent squad can make significant developments on the Asian stage, especially after IKF Asia is officially recognized by the World Olympic Committee.

With tough challenges in Group B, Indonesia is determined to take advantage of the momentum to improve its ranking and pave the way for the next international agenda.

“We both pray that the results will be optimal. Our pool is not easy, but we want to record the best performance for Indonesia and be an extraordinary experience for the DKI Jakarta regional team to compete in the upcoming PON 2028,” concluded Adi. (ma)
