Indra Sjafri: FIFA Match Day event is an event to strengthen strategy

Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Coach of the U23 National Football Team, Indra Sjafri, welcomed the decision of PSSI General Chair, Erick Thohir, to designate the FIFA Match Day (FMD) event in November as a strategic preparation period towards the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

“I appreciate and accept the trust given by the PSSI General Chair to the U23 National Team to utilize November’s FIFA Match Day as part of the period leading up to the SEA Games. This is not just a test match, but an important part of the process of forming a team that is solid and ready to compete in the real event,” stressed Indra Sjafri when contacted, Friday (24/10).

The coaching team will maximize the two FMD matches as a competitive simulation that is integrated into the training program and performance evaluation. After previously facing India as a competitive opponent, Coach Indra said that the process of selecting the next opponent would be carried out in a measured manner.

“We will discuss with the Secretary General of PSSI, the National Team Agency (BTN), and the Technical Director to determine the opponent that best suits the team’s needs. The quality and character of the opponent really determines the effectiveness of our preparations,” he said.

Regarding the possibility of adding players, Indra emphasized that the selection process will consider three main aspects. First, compliance with age regulations at the SEA Games with a limit of U23.

Second, the selected players must be able to contribute maximally to get full points in the two FMD matches. Third, the addition of players must be in line with the team’s peak performance plan in December, so that it does not disrupt the rhythm and progress of the training that has been prepared.

“We will not be careless in adding players. All decisions will be based on data, tactical needs and the players’ mental readiness to face the pressure of regional competition,” concluded Indra Sjafri. (ma)
