Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission X, My Esti Wijayanti expressed his deep concern over the rampant practices of fraud in the selection process for new student admissions (SPMB) of the 2025-2026 school year.
He urged that all forms of fraud were dealt with so as not to harm the principle of justice in the world of education.
“Against fraud that may arise, there must be firmness in addressing. Officials also need to set an example not to make a chair and do not ask for seats for relatives and relatives,” Esti said in his statement, Friday (6/20/2025), as reported by the official page of the Indonesian Parliament.
Esti specifically highlighted the alleged practices of data manipulation and buying and selling chairs that were re -emerged in a number of regions.
He asserted that public officials should not abuse the authority or position to obtain privileges in the acceptance of new students.
SPMB is a new system that replaces the New Student Admission Scheme (PPDB).
Different from the previous system that emphasizes zoning, SPMB now accommodates various paths, such as domicile, affirmation, achievement, and mutation.
However, the implementation of this system is considered not fully able to guarantee justice and transparency in the field.
A number of parents of students complained about the mismatch of the selection results. Many of them who live close to schools do not pass the selection, while participants from other regions are accepted. This condition raises big questions against system transparency.
Community suspicion also increased after alleged manipulation of domicile through the counterfeiting of Family Card (KK) and sudden address transfer.
This practice is called re-emerged in big cities like Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Makassar.
One of the most striking cases occurred in the city of Bandung. The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, revealed that the Siber Pungli team found indications of buying and selling seats in four junior high schools (SMP).
The illegal levy mode (extortion) is thought to involve payments between Rp. 5 million to Rp. 8 million for one seat.
In addition, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia also received more than 100 community reports related to alleged extortion, including extortion wrapped in the form of a school committee contribution.
Responding to this phenomenon, Esti urged that law enforcement officials take quick and firm steps.
“The practice of extortion and data manipulation must be dealt with firmly. Education is the right of every child, not a speculation event that sacrificed their future,” said the legislator from the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
He considered that the SPMB system should be better than its predecessor because it was built based on the results of an evaluation of the previous PPDB weaknesses.
However, according to him, the success of this system is very dependent on the integrity of all parties in carrying out the mechanism honestly and fairly.
“The real system is based on the study and evaluation of the past system. It should be better if all have the intention to carry out the best and honest,” he said.
However, Esti also admitted that there were still many technical obstacles in the field. One of them is the limited understanding of technology among parents and the lack of information technology infrastructure capacity in schools.
“Indeed, there are still parents who are stamped by technology or server managers who are not in accordance with the capacity and capabilities needed. Including the accuracy of the tool (computer) server,” said Esti.
To overcome this problem, he encouraged schools to be more proactive in assisting parents who experience technical difficulties.
In addition, the principal is also asked to understand the system as a whole in order to convey the correct information to the community.
“The school must be alert to help parents who are technological stuttering and minimal information. It is also important to understand the system and technical for all school principals so that they can provide clear and accurate information to parents of students who go up,” he said.
He stressed the importance of the role of the principal in socializing the new student admission system to parents.
The principal of the elementary school is expected to be able to provide accurate information to parents of students who will enter junior high school, as well as the principal of junior high schools to parents of prospective high school or vocational school students.
With all the input and insistence, Esti hopes that the SPMB implementation in the future can run more honestly, transparently, and fairly.
According to him, this is important in order to maintain the quality and integrity of national education.
“If all parties work together and run the system honestly, I am sure there will be no more speculation that harms our children,” concluded Esti. (AF)
