Viralterkini.id, Bojonegoro – Overall, Bojonegoro Regency has an area of 230,706 hectares. Of that amount, around 40 percent is a forest area. With an area of 94,397 hectares. However, the current condition of tree cover continues to decrease.
Based on Global Forest Watch data, from 2001 to 2024, Bojonegoro has lost 5,080 hectares of tree cover. This figure places Bojonegoro in the fifth highest position of deforestation or reduction of forest area in East Java.
The Observer of the Bojonegoro Institute (BI) environment Arief Dwi Setiawan said, the impact of the reduced tree cover had at least began to be felt. Like the rampant incidence of flash floods, landslides, and increasingly widespread drought disasters.
“In 2023, as many as 109 villages experienced drought, increased dramatically from 50 villages in the previous year,” he said, Wednesday (6/18/2025).
Head of the Office of the Environment (DLH) of Bojonegoro Regency, Luluk Alifah, said that the reduction in land or forest cover in Bojonegoro Regency occurred for several reasons. Such as illegal logging, land and forest fires, as well as land conversion.
DLH Bojonegoro noted, in early 2025 there were 114 cases of illegal tree cutting as of March 2025. Meanwhile, land and forest fires in the dry season in 2024 occurred as many as 47 fires, with details of 8 forest fires and 39 land fires.

“Tree felling for the conversion of excessive agricultural and plantation land functions causes ecological damage and increases the risk of natural disasters,” he said. (RS)
