BNPB Records forest and land fires in West Sumatra and landslides in Central Sulawesi, two victims killed and five of Indonesia’s latest viral

Viralterkini.id, Jakarta – Entering the last week of June 2025, the Center for Control and Operations (Pusdalops) of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported a number of disaster events that occurred in several regions of Indonesia.

Data collected until Tuesday (6/24) at 07.00 WIB, including new events and renewal from the previous disaster.

Karhutla in Fifty Cities, West Sumatra

One significant incident was forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province.

This incident occurred on Monday (6/23) at 14.00 WIB in the Jorong Lubuak Limpato area, Harau District.

The fire burned about one hectare of land. The joint team consisting of the Lima Puluh Kota Regency BPBD Rapid Reaction Team (TRC), the Fire and Rescue Department, the TNI-Polri element, the Tarantang Nagari Device, and the local residents were immediately deployed to the location to make an extinguishing effort.

The blackout process involved various fleets, including a BPBD tank car unit, a firefighting operational car unit, and an operational car unit of the Technical Implementation Unit of the Protection Forest Management Unit (UPT KPHL).

However, the field conditions in the form of cliffs on the top of the hill and a strong wind that made it difficult for the blackout effort.

Until Tuesday morning, the fire had not been extinguished completely. The joint team will continue the blackout process today by deploying additional personnel and support of equipment needed.

Landslides in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi

In addition to Karhutla, BNPB also reported the latest developments from landslides that occurred in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, on Saturday (6/21).

Until Tuesday (6/24) at 06.05 WIB, the latest data said two people were declared dead due to the incident.

Meanwhile, five other people are still in missing status and are in search by a joint team.

Efforts to find victims involving the use of heavy equipment that had arrived at the location to accelerate the cleaning of landslides and simplify the evacuation process.

However, steep terrain and remote location make access to the location quite difficult, thus hampering the speed of emergency treatment.

“The joint team continues to work optimally, despite facing the challenges of terrain and weather. The evacuation process and the search for victims will continue,” said BNPB official in a written report.

BNPB appeal to anticipate disasters

Responding to a series of disaster events, BNPB appealed to the entire community and local governments to increase preparedness, especially in dealing with the potential forest and land fires in the dry season.

BNPB also emphasizes the importance of maximum prevention efforts so that the hotspot does not develop into a hot spot (fire spot), and even if a fire appears, it must not develop into a wider fire.

This appeal is in line with the direction of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who requested that all ranks of local governments increase the supervision and handling of the threat of land and forest fires.

“We must be able to keep the hotspots not to turn into hotspots. Prevention is far better than blackouts,” President Prabowo was quoted as saying by BNPB.

BNPB Pusdalops continues to monitor the development of disaster situations throughout Indonesia.

Reports from affected areas are constantly updated and analyzed to ensure that emergency treatment is optimal.

The community is asked to remain calm but alert, and immediately report to the authorities if they find the initial indication of the occurrence of disasters in their respective regions.

BNPB also stressed the importance of collaboration between the community, local governments, and related agencies to create toughness in the face of disasters.

With increasing preparedness and active participation of all parties, it is expected that the risk of casualties and damage due to disasters can be minimized in the future.
